to Save Energy and Water
Computers and Televisions
Turn off monitors when you are not using them.
Allow computer and monitor to sleep.
Showers
Use low flow aerators and low flow shower heads.
Limit time in the shower.
Heating and Air Conditioning
Do you have a programmable thermostat? Use it!
When you are not there, turn off heat and air, or set it back.
Summer Temperature: 78ºF
Winter Temperature: 68ºF
Setback - In the winter, let it get 5ºF to 10ºF degrees cooler at night.
In the summer, let it get 5ºF degrees warmer when not at home.
Lighting
Turn off lights that you do not need them - Turn off lights when you leave
Use compact fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent.
Driving a Car
Don’t walk when you can ride a bike.
Keep tires properly inflated, change air filters.
Leaking Toilets
Is your toilet leaking? Put a few drops of food coloring in the tank before you go to bed. If the water in the bowl has color in it, you have a leak. Repair leaks - (call maintenance)
Use Less Water i nToilets
Displace water in your tank by inserting something like a brick or a liter soft drink bottle partially filled with sand.
Labs
Close sashes on Fume Hoods.
Put sign on fume hoods reminding users to close them.
Laundry and Dishwashing
Operate only with full loads if using automatic washer.
When manually washing, do not leave water running.
